Course Summary

The Certificate In General Management (Mandarin) / Certificate In General Management (Mandarin) (E-Learning) course is a pre-diploma preparatory programmed designed to provide the basics of management that will be necessary for students to first build a solid technical foundation and subsequently channel into management-related programmed at higher levels. It is structured as per the fundamentals of the management discipline, encapsulating the core functions of management. Upon completion of the module, students should be able to possess a rudimentary overview of management and its key functions. This course is comprised of 4 modules.

Graduation Requirements: Students who complete and pass the modules stipulated in the course structure and fulfil attendance requirement will be issued with a “Certificate In General Management (Mandarin) / Certificate In General Management (Mandarin) (E-Learning)” by United Ceres College.


Admission Criteria

Qualification Entry Requirements: 

  • Passed any 1 subject in GCE O-level
  • Or completed 9 years of formal education
  • Or equivalent qualifications
  • Or no qualifications but with at least 3 years work experience, subjected to review after interview conducted by United Ceres College

Mandarin Requirements: 

  • Completed 9-year formal education with Mandarin as instruction medium

Minimum Age: 16

What You Will Learn

1. Basics in Business Management

This module provides learners with a broad grounding in fundamental business practices. It develops understanding of how businesses and other organisations operate by examining key internal functions such as operations, customers, and marketing. Learners will also explore the external environment and how it influences organisational responses to global challenges, including economic and political conditions. Ethical and legal responsibilities within which businesses operate are also examined to support informed and responsible decision-making.

 

2. Communicating and Reporting Business Finance

This module introduces learners to the different types of costs incurred by businesses and how costs and revenue are managed to generate profit. It covers break-even analysis, financial forecasting, and the fundamentals of how accounting processes are prepared, managed, and reported within an organisation. The module equips learners with a foundational range of financial knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to interpret financial information and apply basic forecasting techniques in a business context.

 

3. Developing Organisational Structure for Human Resource Management

This module examines centralised and decentralised organisational structures across business and public sector contexts. Learners will distinguish between entrepreneurial, functional, divisional, network, matrix, and project-based structures, evaluating their advantages and limitations. The module explores strategic control systems, performance measures, and management control tools such as the balanced scorecard. Learners will reflect on an organisation they are familiar with, considering how organisational structure, culture, and control systems support strategy, informed by organisational behaviour theory and the organisational life cycle.

 

4. Introduction to Marketing

This module introduces learners to the core concepts, tools, and frameworks used in marketing. It combines theoretical understanding with practical application to explore the principles that inform marketing decisions within organisations. Learners will examine consumer behaviour, focusing on how marketers analyse and respond to consumer needs, motivations, and purchasing patterns. The module requires learners to develop a marketing plan addressing product, price, place, and promotion, and introduces key marketing metrics used to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing activities.
