Course Summary

The Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management / Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management (E-Learning) course focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of the tourism and hospitality industries. Designed for students to tackle the ever-changing industrial dynamics and to succeed in the field, this course intends to brush up their industry-specific English communication competency, boost their industry-focused know-hows and skillsets, and sharpen their practical managerial and operational abilities. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to utilise the theories and models learnt to reinforce their industrial insights, necessary to achieve their dreams. Graduation Requirements: Students who complete and pass the modules stipulated in the course structure and fulfil attendance requirement will be issued with a “Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management / Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management (E-Learning)” by United Ceres College.

Qualification Entry Requirements: 

  • Passed any 3 subjects in GCE O-level
  • Or Completed 12 years of formal education
  • Or Completed United Ceres College Management Course
  • Or Equivalent qualifications
  • Or No qualifications but with at least 5 years work experience, subjected to review after interview conducted by United Ceres College

English Requirements: 

  • IELTS 5.5 and above
  • Or equivalent qualifications
  • Or scored 70 in United Ceres College English Placement Test
  • Or completed United Ceres College English Course (Level 3)

What You Will Learn

1. DTHM001 English for Tourism and Hospitality

This module is designed to provide fundamental industry-specific English and practical communication skills for tourism and hospitality. By the end of this module, students should be able to bridge common language communication barriers while building up their confidence and competency in English.

2. DTHM101 Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality

This introductory module provides an overview of the tourism and hospitality industries. It intends to equip the Tourism and Hospitality students with a basic understanding of the various topics relating to the industries, including the growth, operations, and marketing, etc. Students should be able to possess a good understanding of the two industries.

3. DTHM102 Front Office Operations

This module is designed to detail the operations of the front office, its operational characteristics, revenue management, human resource requirements, and relationship with guests. By the end of the module, students should be familiar with the theoretical applications of front office operations and have learnt a detailed knowledge of the hotel industry concepts.

4. DTHM103 Food Services and Event Management

This module is designed to equip students with the basic concepts in food and beverage service management as well as the necessary skills of convention and event management. Upon completion of this module, students should be able to understand the principles of food, beverage, cost control, and event management and to apply these concepts in the hospitality industry.

5. DTHM104 Tourism Management

This module covers various topics in the tourism management specialty, including different aspects of the travel industry, traveler profiles, means of transportation, distribution channels, forms of accommodation, types of tourist destinations, nature of business travel, the airline industry, and the use of online resources in the travel industry. By the end of the module, students will have a good understanding of the tourism industry and its management functions.

6. DTHM105 Marketing in Hospitality and Tourism

This module surveys the major functional areas of marketing and the need for strategic planning and analysis, encapsulating such areas as customer value creation, market targeting, and customer relationship building, etc. With such theoretical marketing frameworks, students will be able to understand the fundamentals of marketing that can steer their future career development.
